The Vina Durcik estate in Pliskovica, on the Karst

A family tradition spanning generations

Winemaking and working the vineyards have been part of our family for centuries. Our ancestors already grew grapes and made wine on this same Karst soil, among stone and wind — long before it carried the name it does today.

Today three generations of our family work together. Each has added something of their own to the vineyard and the wine — knowledge, experience, patience — and each received it from the generation before.

That's how the tradition continues. Not unchanged, but alive — in its own way, with every new vintage.

A boutique family winery on the Karst

Our cellar is in Pliskovica, and our vineyards lie in the surrounding area.

We work around 3 hectares of vineyards, growing:

  • Refošk, from which we make Teran
  • Vitovska
  • Malvazija
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Merlot

The two main varieties that define Vina Durcik are Teran and Vitovska.

We're a boutique family winery that makes wine in as simple and natural a way as possible.

What matters to us is that the wine keeps its character and the character of the vintage.

We don't want to make a wine that's exactly the same every year. We want it to be able to show where it comes from and what the vintage was like.

Philosophy

Our way of working

As simple and natural as possible

At Vina Durcik we want the wine to show its character and its vintage without unnecessary additions.

So we follow as simple and natural an approach as possible. We don't want to steer or change the wine any more than necessary. We want to give it the time and the conditions to develop its own character.

Vineyards

We work the vineyards ourselves. The work is done by hand and by machine, while the harvest is exclusively by hand.

We don't use herbicides in the vineyards.

We don't hold an organic certificate, but our work follows the principles of respect for nature. Healthy vineyards and rich biodiversity matter to us, and we want to preserve them.

Our goal isn't a certificate on paper, but a vineyard that's healthy and alive.

Spontaneous fermentation

Our wines ferment spontaneously. We don't use added yeasts.

This lets fermentation happen naturally, so the wine can develop its own character without being steered by selected commercial yeast strains.

No added sulfites

We make our wines without added sulfites.

This is part of our approach to production that's as natural as possible, and our wish for the wine to express its character and vintage without additions.

Maceration

We macerate our white wines. Maceration is an important part of how we make white wine, and it shapes their structure, texture and character.

With our macerated white wines, we don't want to make just a fresh, aromatic wine, but one with more structure and depth. How long the maceration lasts depends on the wine.

No filtration

Our wines aren't filtered. Here too, the reason is simple: we want to intervene as little as possible and preserve the wine's natural characteristics.

Aging

Our wines age for roughly one to four years in wooden barrels.

After aging in the barrel, they may age further in the bottle.

How long each wine ages depends on the wine and its character.

Our approach

Our way of working is built on patience and intervening as little as possible.

Let the wine show its character. Let the wine show its vintage. And let the wine show where it comes from.
